Betsy DeVos has always been involved with movements that were trying to improve the education system in the country. It was evident from her various different endeavors that she is incredibly passionate about education and really wants to improve the system and transform the country as a whole. DeVos has always wanted to improve the system because of her viewpoints on education. She has commonly expressed her viewpoints that education is the backbone of the country and is the one thing that the country needed to progress even further into the industry.

 

 

Being the education minister of the country is one of the most beneficial things for someone who wants to improve the system and bring forward change from within. Taking on this role has been one of the most challenging, yet fulfilling because of the changes that she can bring forth. This position is something that DeVos looked forward to for an incredibly long time, and is now able to carry out the plan that she had envisioned.

 

 

Betsy DeVos always wanted to improve the public school system in particular. She realized that there were numerous drawbacks that this system was facing as a result of the lack of fund therein. Public schools rely on taxpayers money, and often, this money is not adequate to meet the growing needs of children in these schools. As a result, schools are now able to provide everything that a child would need to grow up into strong individuals.

 

 

Betsy DeVos takes inspiration from the charter school system, which is a set of institutions that are able to provide nothing but the very best for children there. It is evident that this system is good for the overall development of the country because of the non-shortage of resources herein. Children get all that they would need without the schools having to face much strain. All of this contributes to a better environment and is something that can push for the much-needed improvements that America currently needs.

 

 

Besides contributing to the future of America through education, DeVos has also participated in a number of philanthropic programs that have helped countless people all over.

Frontera Fund – DACA

The issue of illegal immigrants has affected not only the old generation but also the young people. Therefore to protect the innocent children from the detrimental effects of being deported there is a fund known as Frontera. Under the DACA program, there is a fund which is referred to as Frontera Fund helps the youth from imminent deportation. DACA is an abbreviation for Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals provides the young people who are undocumented and meet certain standards reprieve from being deported an opportunity to work and social number which is renewable after two years. In most federal states the students are allowed to acquire driver’s license as well as access state-tuition fees among other benefits.

 

For an individual to be considered for the program, he or she must have to meet specific requirements as follows: For instance one of the conditions is that one must be under the age of 31 years old as from June 2012.The other requirement is the individual must have been in the United States before his or her 16th birthday. Besides the other condition is that one must have lived in the United States continuously from the year 2007 until the present. The applicant must be present physically in the United States from June 15 up to the time of application. To apply an individual must have been in the United States without documents before June or his or her lawful stay in the country expired on June 15 June 2012.The other requirement is that the applicant is currently studying or has recently graduated from the high school or been honorably discharged from military or coast guard or earned high school certificate of completion of GED or high school. Lastly, the applicant must not have been convicted of any felony or any other harmful engagement with authority.

 

Despite the Frontera Fund and DACA engaging itself in such noble activities, some parties within the government want the whole program suspended. The extremist members of the GOP have initiated vicious attacks on the program, and this negatively affects the lives of millions young immigrants networks and organization. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has addressed the President and his administration asking him to rescind the program by September and if their demands are not meet there will be legal consequences. In their letter which has names of nine attorney generals and one governor proposes for phasing off rather than abrupt termination and this means there will be no new renewals.

 

The program protects more than 800000 individuals and the court cases posses a real challenge since the gain made can be eroded.

For instance, the DACA program is in its fifth year of implementation, and the benefits are tangible for all. Notably, more than 95% of the beneficiaries of DACA work, study or engage on both of them within the United States. As a result, they contribute significantly regarding college and university fees. In case they become employed they pay taxes to the government which is higher compared to the residents. For instance, in the year 2015, they made over $3million to cater for education matters, and this was about 26% of their total charitable contributions. The DeVos’s family have highlighted that their foundation is keen on improving the existing education system in America as the current system was not fulfilling. While at Amway, he worked as the president where he oversaw all the firm’s operation in over six continents. Under his governance, Amway opened new markets and was able to triple their international sales to surpass domestic sales for the first time in the firm’s history. During his final financial year at Amway, the firm recorded $4.5 billion worth of sales.

 

Dick DeVos, aside from his business positions, is a leader in various community initiatives. Dick initiated the Education Freedom Fund which has presented over 4000 scholarships to needy children residing in Michigan. Dick, in 2006, was a Republican candidate for the Governorship position in Michigan. His book known as Rediscovering American Values was published in 1997, and the book is available in seven languages.

 

Dick DeVos is a graduate of Northwood University. He is a helicopter pilot and a two-time Nationwide Champion sailor. Dick has been married to Betsy Prince, and they are blessed with seven kids and five grandchildren.
